DRINKING WATER TREATMENT PLANT

The technology of Buzau Zahar water treatment plant ensures drinking water in accordance to the quality requirements set by European Directive 98/83/EC transposed in the legislation of Romania by Law 458/2002 on drinking water quality, as amended by Law 311/2004, Ordinance 11 / 2010 and Order 1/2011.

The water treatment process involves the pre-oxidation step by air injection in order to transform the iron from dissolved form (Fe2 +) in precipitate form (Fe3 +), followed by water filtering through two filter layers, anthracite and sand. The top layer of the filter is composed of anthracite which is responsible for removing coarse particles or previously oxidized and the lower layer of the filter is composed of sand that serves mainly to absorb the dissolved iron and manganese.

In order to eliminate excess chlorine, the water is subjected to a reverse osmosis process that relies on the principle of crossing of semipermeable membranes by liquids with different concentration until is obtained liquids with concentrations increasingly smaller. The whole water treatment process is controlled by the SCADA system.
